The premise

Here’s the bit.

At a Met Gala-style red carpet, a string of nervous celebrity types explain that they want to look engaged with the issues of the day but are afraid of saying too much or the wrong thing. The solution is the Teeny Tiny Statement Pin, an accessory so small that nobody notices it unless they lean in with a magnifier, so the wearer can hold any opinion without defending it. The ad rattles through sample slogans, a spokesperson with a bad opinion who is glad it stays hidden, and Anna Wintour dropping in to endorse the extra space for nuance. A vague collection of meaningless emblems follows, and the spot ends with a pin falling to the floor, which the narrator warns is lost for good.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

It's wrong to stay silent, but it's also wrong to say too much.

I feel very confident in my opinion, but unfortunately it is a bad one, and I don't want people to know that.

If you drop it, it's gone forever.
