The premise

Here’s the bit.

Billed as a return to "Scooby-Doo! and the Mystery of the Shadow Phantom," this pre-recorded short recreates the cartoon in live action, complete with a computer-animated Scooby. Fred, Daphne, Velma and a jumpy Shaggy creep through a candlelit mansion until Scooby blunders into capturing the phantom, who is unmasked as grumpy Old Man Franklin. While the gang explains his secret passage and floating trick, Fred becomes convinced that nobody is who they seem and rips off the old man's actual face. The tidy mystery formula then collapses into a gory horror spiral of severed body parts, piano-wire injuries and a police officer shot on arrival, with the surviving friends turning on one another, before a final card reveals the whole thing was an ad for Apple's Face ID.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

No one is who they appear to be.

Quick, we need to put the face in a bowl of dry rice.

It's not a cell phone, you moron!

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

This pre-recorded short aired in the Season 49 finale, with that night's musical guest, Sabrina Carpenter, playing Daphne.
