Subway Platform
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Darius Cole approaches Mr. Douglas, the head of an investment bank, as they wait on a subway platform and asks about the commodities broker job he applied for. When Douglas says applicants will be notified by mail, Darius admits he has no address because he has been living in his car so he could pay for business school. The scene is played as a hushed, sincere drama: Darius admits he does not look the part, insists he wants a chance rather than charity, and reminds Douglas that someone once gave him a break, while every train that pulls in behind them is packed with fights, dancing and other commuter mayhem and a city worker bags a rat. Douglas finally hires him, offers a corporate apartment until he finds a place, and tells him to start Monday morning.

Highly quotable.
I know I don't look the part. Cheap suit, secondhand shoes.
I run an investment bank, Mr. Cole, not a charity.
I'll be there at seven.
A little extra
Notes from the archive.
NBC Insider describes the sketch as a follow-up to the Waffle House film from Jenna Ortega's March 2023 episode, which also staged a quiet foreground scene against chaos in the background.
