Behind the running joke
A little backstory.
Saturday Night Live pretaped films in which a sincere, quietly dramatic scene plays out in the foreground while the rest of the cast stages escalating mayhem behind the principals, who never react. SNL Archives groups the installments as Background Chaos: Varsity Valley (Waffle House) in 2023, The Right Track (Subway Platform) later that year and Varsity Valley: Spring Break in 2025.
