The premise
Here’s the bit.
A census taker visits Mr. Leonard to collect basic information about his household. Estimates of the number of residents lead to increasingly implausible explanations about his home life, citizenship and employment, while the visitor struggles to keep the questionnaire on track. Mr. Leonard treats the interview as perfectly ordinary, leaving the worker to sort out misunderstandings that reach far beyond the census form.
