Lyle Clark convinces his wife Brenda that their tabby, Toonces, knows how to drive, so the couple climb into the car with the cat behind the wheel. Within moments Toonces veers off the road and the car plunges over a cliff. Battered but alive, Lyle admits his evidence was thin: he once saw the cat pawing at the steering wheel. Undeterred, the Clarks sign Toonces up for a driving test. Back at the kitchen table the Clarks wait for news while a uniformed examiner rides along with the cat, and the road test ends exactly the way the first drive did. In the debut of Jack Handey's recurring sketch, stock footage of the tumbling car and a wide-eyed puppet do most of the damage, and Toonces finally drives off on his own.
