A VERY GOOD USE OF YOUR TIME.

The setup

The premise

Here’s the bit.

Mr Praline insists that his halibut deserves the same official paperwork as his other pets. The clerk’s objections draw out increasingly elaborate defenses, a suspicious cat licence and a list of animals all named Eric. When the clerk finally establishes that a fish licence does not exist, Praline demands a written exemption from the Lord Mayor. A towering ceremonial procession promptly arrives to grant his request, leaving him bewildered by the grand response to his petty dispute.

Highly quotable.

A licence for my pet fish, Eric.

You’re in luck.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

The television version ends with the Lord Mayor’s visit; the later album recording instead leads into Eric the Half-a-Bee.

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
