Black Republicans
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
At a sparsely attended political meeting in Tallahassee, the chair objects to the assumption that Black voters all think alike. Douglas Jackson takes over to defend the variety among Black Republicans, although his clothes, hairstyle and delivery closely resemble the chair’s. He introduces Arthur Washington as an unusually independent thinker, only for Arthur to repeat the same grievances in much the same style. Their confidence that they represent a broad range of people collapses when a hotel employee interrupts with a message about someone’s wife, and the entire room responds.
