The setup

Two delighted theatergoers celebrate Othello at intermission, blissfully unaware of what Shakespeare has planned for the second act.

The premise

Here’s the bit.

Martinsia and Lashawnia leave the first act of Othello thrilled to see a Black general commanding the stage. Between exuberant reviews and a concealed snack, they imagine a triumphant finish. The tragedy leaves them furious instead, and they corner Shakespeare outside the theater to demand an explanation. His attempts to distract them and disown the script fail, so they insist he supply a new Black hero immediately. Their next theatrical outing has a suspiciously familiar action-movie swagger.
