Stupid Deaths: Gruffydd ap Llywelyn
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
In the afterlife waiting room, Death is bored by a run of ordinary deaths until Griffith Ap Llewelyn, contestant 1244, steps into the spotlight. The Welsh prince proudly explains how he was locked high in the Tower of London and knotted his bedsheets into a rope to climb down to freedom, only to discover the rope ended well short of the ground. Delighted, Death and his skeleton judges declare it a properly stupid death, Death tries out a Welsh-name pun, and Griffith is waved through to the afterlife with a warning to watch his step.

Highly quotable.
Whoa, hold the phones. We've found a doozy.
I ran out of bedsheet. I'd made it ten metres too short.
Mind how you go. There's a bit of a drop on the other side.
A little extra
Notes from the archive.
The real Gruffydd ap Llywelyn Fawr died in 1244 when the rope of knotted sheets he used to escape from the Tower of London gave way.
