Witchfinder's Direct
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Styled like a no-win-no-fee injury-claims commercial, Witchfinder's Direct invites seventeenth-century viewers who have suffered accidents, sickness or bad luck to call in its witchfinder. A dramatised case study follows a farmer whose cabbages were eaten by slugs: the firm pins the blame on the strange elderly woman who lives in the village, gives her a one-question trial about owning a cat, and sends her to the pyre while the cat goes to prison. The pitch closes with a cheerfully callous slogan, followed by on-screen facts about how accused witches were tortured, burned and otherwise punished in the 1600s.

Say it with us
Highly quotable.
We'll find some innocent woman, say she's a witch and have her burned to death.
Then thou art a witch.
Witchfinders, because old ladies deserve it.
A little extra
Notes from the archive.
The sketch was later rebroadcast in Horrible Histories' 2012 Halloween episode, the Scary Special, as its entry for witches.

One more couldn’t hurt.
