Scary Poppat
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Presented as a trailer for a family film, the sketch follows Mr and Mrs Bhanks, a British Asian couple whose children have driven away one au pair after another. Their newspaper advert is answered by Scary Poppat, who arrives on a mysterious wind and replaces magic with strict Indian parenting, a ready slipper and a run of song parodies about chores and respecting elders. A Punjabi cockney chimney sweep joins the big number before the closing tagline suggests that the bad old days were really the good old days.
