Dumped for an Eskimo
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
In a busy wine bar, Dave tells his girlfriend that their relationship isn't working, then lists his reasons as if reading a style column: Asian pop acts have slipped down the charts and designers have stopped borrowing from Asian looks. She realises she is being dumped because her ethnicity is no longer in vogue, while he insists it is only a break until the next album chart settles the matter. When she offers to reinvent herself around the newest craze, he explains that he is already thinking a season ahead and introduces his new date, a woman wrapped in a fur parka whom he proudly presents as the coming thing for spring.
