They call me the Hiphopopotamus, my lyrics are bottomless... [pause]
I'm not a water-dwelling mammal from Africa that's moved to the metropolis and been taught how to break dance — where did you get that preposterous hypothesis? Did Steve tell you that?
Be more constructive with your feedback. Why?
There ain't no party like my Nana's tea party, Hey! Ho!
Sometimes when I freestyle, I lose confidence.
My rhymes are so potent that in this small segment, I made all of the ladies in the first two rows pregnant.

During a mugging in New York City, Bret and Jemaine attempt to intimidate their attackers by launching into a gangsta rap battle as their alter egos: Bret as the Rhymenoceros and Jemaine as the Hiphopopotamus. Their verses parody hip-hop clichés — boasting about rhyming skills, sexual prowess, and street credibility — while constantly undercutting themselves with hilariously tame or nonsensical lines (e.g., 'There ain't no party like my Nana's tea party'). Jemaine's freestyle section devolves into him just describing a picture of New York before admitting he's lost confidence. The performance is filmed in classic hip-hop music video style with low camera angles and rapid movement. The song also appeared on the HBO One Night Stand live special (2005) and reached #67 on the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2008.

The song first appeared on the HBO One Night Stand live special in 2005 before being adapted for Season 1, Episode 3 of the Flight of the Conchords TV series ('Mugged', aired July 1, 2007). The YouTube upload is from the Flight of the Conchords channel and has over 3.7 million views. Ranked #67 on the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2008. Widely regarded as one of the duo's signature songs.
