The premise

Here’s the bit.

Sir George Martin is midway through a documentary-style recollection of first hearing the Beatles when gunmen bundle him into a car, but he simply carries on with his studio stories for his captors, for a bearded fellow prisoner in their cell and even while being taped up and dumped from a lorry. When the British hostages are later presented at a televised press conference, every question about fear, politics or his ordeal gets another Beatles anecdote instead, until fellow hostage Mr. Hooper launches into a recording story of his own and the event collapses into a scuffle.

The funny people

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

Well, the Beatles certainly never took drugs in front of me.

Well, I never really understood all the criticisms against Ringo's drumming.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

Broadcast in two parts within the sixth episode of Big Train's first series: the kidnapping and the hostages' release press conference are separated by other sketches. Kevin Eldon's George Martin grew out of his impression of the Beatles producer.
