The premise

Here’s the bit.

Standing in a supermarket's frozen-food aisle, veteran make-up artist Ruby Romaine sings the praises of TV dinners, though she grumbles that they lost their colour once some ingredients turned out to cause cancer. Her solution is a freezer stockpiled with 'vintage' dinners kept for special occasions: last Thanksgiving she brought out a 1974 Turkey Supreme and gave it the full oven treatment instead of the microwave, marvelling at its bright green beans and red beets while her son Buddy struggled to find words for the turkey. Over dessert, she says, they gave thanks that the health nuts had not yet come for their Twinkies and Cool Whip, and she ends with a hearty cackle.

Highly quotable.

You know, you can't beat TV dinners for convenience and variety.

I reached in and I got out a 1974 Turkey Supreme.

We gave thanks that those health nuts hadn't gotten their mitts on our Twinkies and Cool Whip.

You know, you can't be TV dinners for convenience and variety. They're not as colorful as they used to be because they discovered that some of the stuff they was putting in them was cancerous. But I stocked up, and in my freezer, I've got some vintage dinners, you know? We save them for special occasions, like last Thanksgiving. I reached in, and I got out a 1974 Turkey Supreme. And I baked it in the oven for the full 50 minutes, you know, because it was the holidays instead of in the microwave for three and oh my goodness those beans were so green and the beets were so red and buddy said that the turkey was how can i say it my he says it's trickier yeah and all the dessert we gave thanks that those health nuts hadn't gotten their mitts on our twinkies and cool whip it.
