The premise

Here’s the bit.

After a recap of the graveyard showdown, Inspector Corner pursues the Phantom around the world in a sped-up newsreel chase, then limps home in time for Queen Victoria's New Year's Eve procession of 1899. Revived by Sergeant Bowles's tea, he is admiring the parade from a window when a telegram reports the Phantom cornered in the sewers beneath Bullseye Crescent. Corner rushes ahead, Bowles follows with half a dozen constables and an enormous electric police horn, and Corner calls down the manhole threatening to blast the villain with his own recorded raspberry. The Phantom refuses to come out, the countdown ends in an explosion that flattens the squad, and the narrator proclaims London safe for the new century before a seaside band concert leaves the villain's fate in doubt.

The funny people

Meet the cast. 2

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

Awfully nice idea to do it completely in black and white.

Otherwise I'll play back your own devilish recording with the new electric police horn.

The Phantom was dead. Or was he?

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

Despite the joke closing credit "Raspberries specially blown by Spike Milligan", the Phantom's raspberries were supplied by David Jason, who confirmed it in his 2013 autobiography.

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
