The premise

Here’s the bit.

Amanda presents another installment of her alarmist true-crime special, this time warning viewers about the hula girl menace. Shaky footage shows a junior-high marching band rehearsing outdoors until grass-skirted dancers sway into view and pile onto the musicians, and a national weightlifting championship ends the same way when the dancers swarm a lifter mid-attempt. Each ambush is replayed in slow motion while Amanda's narration shows the victims no sympathy, and the battered band kids and the plaster-cast weightlifter recount their ordeals in tearful interviews. After she reads out an absurdly long hotline number, the hula girls appear in the studio, recognize her alias, and lunge at her.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

Aired one week before the series ended on September 21, 2002. The two band-practice victims, Drake Bell and Josh Peck, went on to co-star in Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh.
