The setup

A couple at a car boot sale discover that the antique wardrobe on one stall really is a gateway to Narnia, and the stallholder can't see why that's a big deal.

The premise

Here’s the bit.

At a car boot sale, a man asks about a large antique wardrobe and the offhand stallholder runs through its selling points: French oak, made in the 1890s, fine marquetry on the doors and a working entrance to Narnia, all for two hundred and fifty pounds. The man and his wife can hardly believe what they have heard, but the stallholder treats it as unremarkable, breaking off to quote prices for paperbacks and other bric-a-brac to passing shoppers. He politely corrects the man's guess about the creatures who live there, speaks warmly if vaguely of Aslan, and says the magical land is rather like the Cotswolds. Asked why anyone would sell such a thing, he explains that it was handy for outdoor space when he lived in a flat, but since moving he has a garden and fitted wardrobes, so he no longer needs it. He cheerfully invites the couple to try it out, and they step inside.

    Man

    That's quite a lot, isn't it?

  4. 00:08

    Owner

Not really. French oak, 1890s, gateway to Narnia. Lovely marquetry work on the doors, £250.

  5. 00:15

    Woman

Sorry, did you just say gateway to Narnia?

  6. 00:16

    Owner

    That's right, love.

  7. 00:17

  15. 00:38

    Man

And you're selling it at a car boot sale because...?

  16. 00:42

    Owner

Well, I don't really need it any more. I mean, you know, it was good when I had the flat. Handy to have a bit of outside space, but, you know, since we moved, we've got a garden and fitted wardrobes, so...

  17. 00:52

    Can we have a go?

  18. 00:53

    Owner

Oh, yeah, it all works, yeah. Knock yourself out. They're a pound, darling.
