The premise

Here’s the bit.

The glam-rock band Buttered Toast takes the stage, but when its frontman asks whether the crowd is ready to rock, the audience flatly says no: their friend Mike, a devoted fan who drove in from Oregon, is still in the bathroom. While the band waits, the singer's stock crowd-pleasing questions keep drawing earnest answers, including one fan's news that her dog ran away, and his own bandmates side with the audience against him. Just as he starts lecturing the crowd about mob mentality, Mike returns, and the singer realizes he now needs the bathroom himself.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

I for one, am categorically ready to rock!

I feel like we fall into a mob mentality too easily these days.

'Cause now I have to go to the bathroom.

Behind the scenes

The people who made it.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

The band's name, Buttered Toast, is printed on the bass drum. The concert audience is heard throughout but never shown on camera.
