The premise

Here’s the bit.

Twenty-one hours into a Las Vegas telethon, a frazzled Jerry Lewis-style host fights fatigue while appealing for donations against jheri curl syndrome. He brings out Rodney Washington, a drippy-haired sufferer who craves curl activator, to describe how the greasy hairstyle drove away his girlfriend and made his fast-food job a fire risk before he called a deactivation center. After Rodney tearfully pledges to get a flat-top, the host laments that his usual closing anthem was unavailable and performs a song of his own.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

I was like a walking fire hazard.

Help us fight this Jheri curl syndrome.

Unfortunately, this year we could not get clearance on "Never Walk Alone." I was devastated.

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

The sketch spoofs Jerry Lewis's MDA Labor Day Telethon, which Lewis traditionally closed by singing "You'll Never Walk Alone."

The rabbit hole continues

One more couldn’t hurt.
