The premise

Here’s the bit.

Presenting the Darmine Doggy Door, a chip-activated pet flap that promises to keep out raccoons, burglars and worse, the pitchman keeps returning to the hairy creature he says crawled through his own old door while he sat on the couch. The horror-movie flashbacks give way to an explanation: his neighbor, locked in a property-line dispute with him, slipped a pig wearing a Richard Nixon mask into the house, and he only panicked because he has barely slept since a swing dancer tossed his wife around at a wedding. The real shock is what went through his head when he thought he was about to be eaten, and the ad dissolves into his furious, despairing questions about work and adult life before the product logo returns.

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

My next door neighbor had put a Richard Nixon mask on a pig and had it go through my doggy door

I know it was just a pig, but for 50 seconds it felt really real.

My life is nothing I thought it should be and everything I was worried it would become

A little extra

Notes from the archive.

According to directors Jeffrey Max and Zachary Johnson, Tim Robinson wanted the creature's face to resemble "This Man", the face from a viral hoax claiming that millions of people had dreamed about the same stranger. Special-effects artist James Ojala built the foam-latex suit, and stunt performer Devyn LaBella, whose size and flexibility let her fit through the doggy door in the suit, played the creature on her hands and knees.
