HH Movie Pitch: Mary Shelley
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Introduced under the Gorgeous Georgians banner, Mary Shelley steps in front of a panel of slick Hollywood producers to sell a movie based on her novel. They nearly throw her out before she has begun, then keep interrupting her account of the stormy summer at Lake Geneva with Lord Byron, the ghost-story contest that also produced John Polidori's vampire tale, and the book she called The Modern Prometheus. Told that Frankenstein has already been filmed countless times, she explains that Frankenstein is the scientist rather than his creation, whom she insists is called Adam. The producers immediately try to turn Adam into a rom-com heartthrob, so she storms out calling them monsters, and the panel briefly turns menacing before the scene collapses into squabbling.

Say it with us
Highly quotable.
We had a woman in here called J.K. Rowling saying the same thing.
I hate name droppers, and so does my good friend Brad Pitt.
Oh, but my monster isn't called Frankenstein.
A little extra
Notes from the archive.
The panel of Hollywood producers in every HH Movie Pitch sketch is played by League of Gentlemen members Steve Pemberton, Mark Gatiss and Reece Shearsmith, and the format borrows from Orange's cinema reminders to switch off mobile phones.
The rabbit hole continues
One more couldn’t hurt.
