Baby Eagle
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Sitting on a café patio, three friends trade stories about embarrassing but ordinary moments until Mary adds an eagle swooping down to carry off a baby to the list. Her increasingly detailed account, from the talons unbuckling the stroller to the bird returning the child at four, alarms her two friends, who press her on whether this actually happened. Mary wonders aloud whether a mother could be blamed for standing by while a protected bird flies off, claims it was all a joke, and then circles straight back to the subject. When a real eagle lands with a baby in a basket, Mary flatly disowns it, until another mother arrives to claim the infant with the same hope that the eagle would raise it to a more interesting age.

Highly quotable.
Mary, did an eagle steal your baby?
It's like, hands off the eagle, bitch.
I just thought the eagle would bring it back, you know, when she was four and cool.
