The Four Sydney Lotterbys
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
At an outdoor cafe in sunny Spain, one British tourist approaches another and the pair recognise each other from the flight over; soon a third man lowers his Financial Times and a fourth pulls up a chair, all in matching straw hats, loud shirts and shorts. Every one of them speaks in exactly the same voice, so alike that they lose track of who actually said what, while one of them insists he can tell where a man comes from by his accent as they name four different home towns. Formal introductions reveal that all four are called Sydney Lotterby and three are wholesale greengrocers, the odd man out being a barrister who used to be one. When a wife finally arrives to collect her Sydney, all four men stand up at once.

Highly quotable.
I can always place a man by his accent.
Well, isn't that a coincidence, all being called Sydney Lotterby?
Three wholesale greengrocers and a barrister, all called Sydney Lotterby.
