The premise

Here’s the bit.

Seated in his egg-shaped chair at the head of a briefing table, a pale-haired supervillain finishes revealing the true purpose of his organisation and smoothly invites anyone with moral doubts to simply walk away. One employee, Hugo, admits the plan sounded a bit much and says he would like to leave, promising to keep quiet. Assuring him that he certainly will, the villain reaches for a button under his armrest, but instead of a silent drop a red warning light starts flashing and a guard sets up striped safety rails around Hugo's seat. As a calm automated voice repeatedly warns that trapdoor three is about to open and asks everyone to clear the area, the villain keeps up a stream of innocent chatter about redundancy packages, pension dates and an emergency drill to keep his nervous victim in his chair. By the time the hatch finally opens, Hugo's seat is empty and the remaining staff sit in uneasy silence.

Notes from the archive.

The sketch pays off Bond Villain: Evil Plans earlier in the same episode, in which a builder insisted on the health and safety features that now give the trapdoor away.
