The premise

Here’s the bit.

On a blue, checkerboard-floored quiz set, the host of Hole in the Ring turns his attention to John, whose job is zoology. After a stumbling build-up he asks whether zoologists have much use for being bad at quizzes, mocks John's polite confusion, and suggests he belongs in a zoo. The host declares John the evening's hole in the ring, and John trudges off the darkened set as the camera swings high above the revolving floor. The host then signs off to the audience with a pair of rude gestures.
