The setup

A browse among the ornamental grasses goes badly for Martin when a tribe hiding in the garden centre carries him off to become one of them.

The premise

Here’s the bit.

Martin and his girlfriend are being steered towards ornamental grasses by a garden-centre assistant when Martin drifts into the bamboo and is grabbed by painted figures lurking in the foliage. He comes round surrounded by a tribe in leaves, feathers and green gardening gloves, whose chief, Utapu, announces in halting English that Martin now belongs with them. Martin protests that he has a job and a girlfriend and cannot live in a garden centre, so the tribe confiscates his shoes. He sets off anyway, only for Utapu to ask how he plans to cross the great gravel pathway barefoot, and his yelping attempt on the stones ends the escape. The chief tells him to learn the tribe's ways, offering to hand his shoes back after three moons if he still does not like the life.
