Coverage of People Who Are Ill in Hospital Receiving Treatment
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Presenter Edward opens another edition of the plainly titled daytime programme at the bedside of Dave, who is in to have his gallstones taken out. Co-presenter Gillian, sitting in the waiting area with Chris, whose arm simply broke for no reason he can name, promises the cameras will be there when it is put in plaster and trails a chat with a tired doctor. Back on the ward Edward breezily explains that there has been a mistake and Dave is now dead, promises footage of the body being wheeled away and fills the gap with shots of nurses and doctors walking about.

Say it with us
Highly quotable.
We'll be there to film them doing that and put it on the telly.
In a minute, I'll be talking to a doctor you don't know who's tired.
Meanwhile, here are some nurses and doctors walking about a bit.

Thanks, Edward. I'm here with Chris, who's got a broken arm.

Gillian ?
We'll be there to film them doing that and put it on the telly. In a minute, I'll be talking to a doctor you don't know who's tired. Edward.

Edward ?
Thanks, Gillian. Meanwhile, we've had a bit of a cock-up here and Dave is dead. Here is Dave. In a minute, they'll be carting him out on a trolley and we'll be here to film that and put it on the telly. Meanwhile, here are some nurses and doctors walking about a bit.
