Missing Wives Docuseries
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
A trailer for the Netflix documentary series Gone Without a Trace stitches together frantic 911 calls, night-vision footage and haunted interviews with three men whose wives suddenly disappeared. Then the wives sit down for their own interviews and calmly explain that one was on a long-announced business trip, one was spending a planned weekend at her sister's, and one was simply in the bathroom. Home-security cameras chart the husbands' unravelling: Doug treats his wife's cooking and laundry reminders as taunting clues, another husband goes hungry, fights a kitchen fire with an extinguisher and has to sketch his wife for the police from memory, and a third is terrified by two small strangers emerging from the basement who turn out to be his own sons. Interrogations reveal how little the men know about their partners, Doug moves on to a dating app within a day, and doorbell footage shows a wife clearly announcing her weekend plans before the title is amended to Gone With Several Traces.
