Sinbad Monologue: Dracula
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Strolling out in front of the band, Sinbad marvels that he has reached the Saturday Night Live stage and jokingly announces his retirement from stand-up. After recommending the marathon-length Malcolm X, he turns to Dracula, arguing that any sensible guest would have fled the count's castle on arrival, given the host's elaborate hairdo, his floating entrance and his missing reflection. He wonders why vampire hunters always wait until the sun is nearly down to search for the coffin, admits he would cut a deal with the count rather than fight him, pictures Dracula blending in unnoticed on the streets of New York, and confesses he would abandon his date to save himself before introducing musical guest Sade.
The funny people
Meet the cast. 1
Say it with us
Highly quotable.
If you saw the movie, that movie should've lasted five minutes.
And why do they always go kill Dracula at night? Go at 10 in the morning.
Dracula's chasing us, you're a dead woman. I'll trip you.
A little extra
Notes from the archive.
The monologue aired eight days after Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula opened in the United States (November 13, 1992) and three days after Spike Lee's Malcolm X opened (November 18, 1992), the two new releases Sinbad discusses.
