A VERY GOOD USE OF YOUR TIME.

The setup

Two wedding consultants convince a bride that her simple ceremony needs an injured father, doomed pigeons and a deliberately hopeless flower child.

The premise

Here’s the bit.

Amanda meets Gigi and Phil of Standard Ceremonies to plan her Memorial Day weekend wedding, and the pair immediately judge her venue too forgettable. Their fixes grow steadily stranger: a father who should limp down the aisle, ideally after an arranged injury; vows they praise for being boring; a ring big enough to impress relatives and passing drones; and rice they admit kills pigeons. They supply hired children chosen because they cannot follow directions, and when Amanda worries a chattering child will steal attention from the ceremony, they cheerfully agree that is the point, leaving her facing the wedding party they have assembled.

The funny people

Meet the cast. 3

Say it with us

Highly quotable.

Well, I think at a wedding, you need someone that's either ill or injured.

We could kind of do, like, a Tonya Harding situation.

Also, hey, pigeons, why are you eating rice?

    Amanda?

  2. 00:00

    Amanda

    Yes.

  3. 00:01

    Hi there, how are you?

  4. 00:02

    Amanda

    Amanda.

  5. 00:02

    Gigi

Amanda. Nice to meet you. I'm Gigi.

  6. 00:05

    Phil

I'm Phil. We spoke on the phone.

  7. 00:06

    Amanda

    Yes.

  8. 00:07

We are from Standard Ceremonies, Weddings Division.

  9. 00:10

    Amanda

    Cool.

  10. 00:11

Why don't you talk to us? Tell us what's happening.

  11. 00:13

    Amanda

So my fiance and I are getting married here, Memorial Day weekend. I just need a little bit of help planning the ceremony.

  12. 00:20

Well, this seems like a very standard place, kind of forgettable, like a million other weddings. That's what we do.

  13. 00:25

    Amanda

    OK.

  14. 00:26

Now, who's walking you up the aisle?

  15. 00:28

    Amanda

    My dad.

  16. 00:28

Okay, and does he have a bum leg? Does he sort of walk in a lopsided, very slow way?

  17. 00:34

    Amanda

Oh, no, my dad is very, very healthy.

  18. 00:36

    Gigi

Oh, really? Well, I think at a wedding, you need someone that's either ill or injured.

  19. 00:40

    Phil ?

It's got to seem like an incredible feat that that person is walking at all.

  20. 00:45

    It walks.

  21. 00:46

    Amanda

Do I just tell my dad to pretend?

  22. 00:49

    Gigi

We don't want any pretending. We could kind of do, like, a Tonya Harding situation.

  23. 00:53

    Amanda

Oh, I'm not sure I feel comfortable with you injuring my father.

  24. 00:56

Let's just say that the muscle in the Achilles tendon is sometimes disconnected during sleep.

  25. 01:04

    Amanda

    I don't know, you guys.

  26. 01:06

Most of the time, it's reversible. What are you thinking for vows?

  27. 01:09

    Amanda

Oh, um, actually, I broke them. Laura, ever since that first date,

  28. 01:15

I'm already so bored. Which is good. She's giving you a compliment.

  29. 01:19

    Yeah. Oh, yes.

  30. 01:20

    Phil ?

    Now, this is very important.

  31. 01:22

    Amanda

Oh, I have a band already.

  32. 01:24

Can they see it from the drones that we're gonna have Flying overhead, zzz.

  33. 01:27

    Amanda

    Probably not.

  34. 01:28

You want it to be big enough so your relatives can see it and go, oh my god. Oh, that's beautiful. So rice. Now this is controversial, because we know that this kills pigeons.

  35. 01:40

    Amanda

    Oh.

  36. 01:41

But pigeons are flying. Meant to die. They have lifespans. Also, hey pigeons, why are you eating rice? Mm-hmm. Not your food. Yeah. So do you have someone that you would like as a flower child in your wedding?

  37. 01:53

    Amanda

    Yes, I have a niece.

  38. 01:54

Well, we brought you these people.

  39. 01:55

    Amanda

    Oh.

  40. 01:55

You want someone who's not able to take command at all, so that your guests are like, why did they even get him to do this? OK. Like Silas, go walk over that way. Go walk that way. Go over there. You see how he doesn't really take command?

  41. 02:10

    Amanda ?

Yeah. Is there any way to get a family member in here?

  42. 02:13

I mean, I don't know if your niece can pull off stuff like these guys.

  43. 02:17

    Amanda ?

    Probably not.

  44. 02:18

You know, she talks throughout the whole wedding, asking questions the whole time, like, is there any? more food in the window? Is there any more money in the window? Is there much money in the window?

  45. 02:27

    Amanda

I don't think that'll steal attention from the ceremony.

  46. 02:30

Oh, it's absolutely going to steal attention.

  47. 02:31

    Amanda

I guess this is my wedding party.

  48. 02:33

    Yeah. Yeah.
