The premise

Here’s the bit.

Toni and Candace are selling copies of their joint memoir from a stall at an outdoor fair when Gil Faizon and George St. Geegland, the elderly New Yorkers running the wicker stall beside them, trade barbs over rubbish tossed into a wicker basket and introduce themselves with their signature greeting. Asked for a reading, the pair recite a florid passage that the visitors declare a sure hit. Gil and George explain that they have come to Portland to help their friend Len die, freely admitting that without a doctor present it will be illegal. Toni, moved by what she sees as courage, agrees with Candace to read from the book during the event, and only as the men plan the evening do they let slip that it is a surprise party for Len, who is in good health and has no idea what they intend.

Notes from the archive.

Gil Faizon (Nick Kroll) and George St. Geegland (John Mulaney) are the elderly New Yorkers from Kroll and Mulaney's stage show Oh, Hello. IFC's upload description swaps the two actors' names; the episode's IMDb credits list them as above.

Candace, I was scared of these wicker men at first, but I feel like it's incredibly brave for them to come here and help a friend pass on.

  70. 01:42
