House of Horrors
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
Mr and Mrs Donald arrive to view a house being sold by Mr and Mrs Skinner, who warn them they will have to take the place as they find it. On the tour the staircase gives way and sends Mr Donald plunging out of sight, a giant rat in the bathroom has to be beaten with a spade, and in the gloomy bedroom passage a spiked trap swings out and skewers him. After every calamity Mr Skinner insists that such things hardly ever happen, and the unruffled Mrs Donald, standing beside her impaled husband, closes the viewing by asking whether the carpets and curtains are included.
