Sarcasmoholics
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
At a community-centre meeting of Sarcasmoholics Anonymous, new member Scott admits he has a problem with sarcasm and hopes the group can help him. Instead the leader and the regulars greet almost everything he says with deadpan mockery, until he can no longer tell when anyone means what they say. When he gives up and heads for the door, the leader pleads with him to stay because none of them can help themselves, but the heartfelt appeal earns one last suspicious question.

Scott ?
Oh, OK.
- 00:51
Group Leader ?
I just gee up every Tuesday night of my life to help these screw-ups for the good of my health.
- 00:56
Scott ?
Why, all right, there's no need to be sarcastic. I mean, that was sarcasm, wasn't it?
- 01:01
Oh, really? Aye, definitely. Sarcasm? At a Sarcasmaholics meeting? Oh, he was definitely being sarcastic.
- 01:10
Scott ?
Oh, right, right, I see, I see. I didn't realise the sarcasm was going to be so full on, is all. So I'll just take a step back and I'll start again.
- 01:19
Oh, I wouldn't bother. You've got off to a really good start with the group.

Group Member ?
Really? What is he doing here?
- 01:39

Right, I'm just having a wee bit of trouble telling when people are being sarcastic and when they're not.
- 01:46
No. Really? Wouldn't he have noticed? No, it's quite hard
- 01:51
Scott ?
for just being sarcastic there.

- 02:03
Scott
Right, fine, fine, I tried to help myself, gave sarcasmaholics a chance, but all I got was a bunch of sarcy comments from a bunch of sarcastic people, so I'm off.
- 02:14
Group Leader
Scott, Scott, please, come back. Look, you have to realise that we're a bunch of people with severe problems. I mean, we kind of help ourselves, just like you cannae help yourself. That's why we need to help each other. I mean, you seem like a decent guy, and I'm sure every person here really, really wants you to join our group.
- 02:57
Scott ?
Was that sarcasm?
- 03:01
No!
