Meeting the New Girlfriend

Matt and Rachel visit Keith to meet Michaela, his new girlfriend. She is lounging in a paddling pool in his living room, complete with a mermaid tail, and treats the introductions with rowdy familiarity. Keith is delighted with her; Matt privately complains while Rachel urges him to make an effort. Their drive to a French restaurant becomes a running exercise in embarrassment and forced politeness. At dinner, Michaela keeps the stories coming. When Keith and Rachel leave the table, Matt’s sudden affection reveals that his objections have concealed a much more personal connection.
