Quotes

Aren't we all in a way, huh?
I wanted to be an astronaut.
It's never too late to be what we want to be.

Synopsis

Short-staffed and willing to take anyone, the manager of a franchise coffee shop sits down with Wendy, an applicant who is leaving sex work for a daytime career. Her resume goes from bad to worse as he asks about each entry: her dancing experience, her odd special skills, and a coded list of limits that she cheerfully decodes one increasingly absurd item at a time. When he finally turns her down, Wendy points out that he settled for supervising teenagers at a chain cafe, and he breaks down and admits he once wanted to be an astronaut. A sentimental ballad about the two of them plays over a montage of Wendy learning the trade behind the counter, after which the manager quits to chase the space program and Wendy sends him off with a party, crowning him in a homemade costume of coffee cups and a fishbowl space helmet.
