The premise
Here’s the bit.
Dr. Richard Ludwin pitches a device that replaces the sound of flatulence with electronic observations drawn from The New Yorker. Dinner, office and restaurant demonstrations present its robotic chatter as a social advantage, letting users seem sophisticated without contributing a thought of their own. Anatomical diagrams and a glimpse beneath a diner’s chair reveal the cumbersome mechanism behind this supposed breakthrough.
