Too Silent a Night
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
After a day of unpacking, Lucy and Ricky turn in early at their new home in the country, expecting their first restful night away from Manhattan's racket. Ricky laughs that he no longer has to beg Fred for heat and Lucy admits she misses the Mertzes, but neither of them can drift off: the absence of traffic, sirens and garbage trucks keeps them both awake, and Lucy finds herself pining for the city noise she used to complain about. When something starts scrabbling and clattering overhead, Lucy dives into Ricky's bed and Ricky guesses it is a squirrel on the roof, though he is not very convincing. Little Ricky then bursts in just as frightened, bringing his puppy, also named Fred, and the whole family plus the dog ends up crammed into one twin bed trying to get to sleep.
