Fred and Ginger
The setup
The premise
Here’s the bit.
A glittering Hollywood gala salutes Fred Astaire, and an elderly, trembling Katharine Hepburn makes her way to the podium to host, stumbling over her own name and admitting she never worked with the man. She introduces his celebrated partner Ginger Rogers, who is wheeled onstage and left slumped beside the podium with little more than her wig visible, so Hepburn carries the interview herself, reacting to unheard replies about old stories as if Ginger had answered. Finally she asks the guest of honour to show off a few of her old steps, and a pair of tailcoated dancers put a top hat on Ginger and whirl her wheelchair around the stage in a full routine while she sits motionless.

Highly quotable.
I wasn't lucky enough to be in a picture with him. But he was a hell of a guy.
Can you tell us the story of you and Fred and the green dress?
Please do us the honor, Ginger, of showing us a few of those marvelous steps.

A little extra
Notes from the archive.
Jennifer Saunders later said, in a 2023 episode of the BBC's Imagine, that this sketch, in which her Hepburn appears to have Parkinson's disease, was one she and Dawn French probably should not have made. It aired in the third episode of the second series on BBC Two on 18 March 1988.
