The Gospel According to Berkeley

Three woke Berkeley academics visit baby Jesus only to inform Mary and Joseph that they're actually Palestinians practicing Islam.
Christmas

We are three wise men from the wast. / Three wise persons.
With all due respect to these eastern wise men, we're from Berkley.
I don't see anything Jewish here.
Jews will only come to this land 1948 years from now... as a colonialist power.
In the beginning, God created the Heaven, the Earth, and the Palestinians.
So my baby is also a Palestinian? / Of course.
What is Islam? / That's a very Islamophobic question.
Actually, it makes me feel unsafe.
Allahu akbar, man. / So akbar.
How did the Jews kill Jesus without even existing, it's gonna be fun.
So worth 54 grand a year in tuition.
Santa is a Palestinian.
Jesus

In this satirical Christmas nativity scene parody, American actor Brett Gelman plays a Berkeley professor who, along with two devoted students, follows "the Star of Bethlehem and GPS" to visit the newborn Jesus. The "three wise persons from the wast" (west) proceed to rewrite history on the spot, informing a confused Mary and Joseph that they are not Jews but Palestinians, that they practice Islam (a religion that wouldn't exist for another 600 years), and that their baby will be killed by Jews (who according to the professor won't even exist for another 1,948 years). The sketch brilliantly skewers progressive campus culture's revisionist approach to Middle Eastern history, anti-Israel talking points, and the absurd claim that Jesus was Palestinian. The humor comes from the increasingly ridiculous historical contradictions and the earnest wokeness of the Berkeley trio confronting the actual historical Jewish family.

Aired December 27, 2023, shortly after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel. Part of Eretz Nehederet's wartime content addressing international discourse about Israel. Brett Gelman was on a solidarity visit to Israel when filming. The sketch went viral internationally with 705,000+ views on YouTube. Received overwhelmingly positive response from viewers of various faiths.
