Can you say X-Mas boys and girls? I knew you could.

ROBINSON! ARE YOU THE GUY WHO SOLD MY KID A HEAD OF LETTUCE WITH A DRESS ON IT?!
Why oh why must Christmas come, but once a year?
It becomes a small business

In this Christmas-themed installment of the recurring "Mister Robinson's Neighborhood" parody, Eddie Murphy's Mr. Robinson discusses the holiday season while teaching the "word of the day" - "X-Mas." He demonstrates his entrepreneurial spirit by showing how to make bootleg Cabbage Patch dolls (a head of cabbage with a dress on it). When an angry parent confronts him at the door about selling his kid a fake doll, Mr. Robinson mentions another X word he knows: "X-Con" and then makes a quick "X-scape" out the fire escape. The sketch parodies Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood with Mr. Robinson's characteristic mix of cheerful demeanor and petty criminal activity in his gritty urban setting.

This was Eddie Murphy's second time hosting SNL after leaving the cast, and his last appearance until returning to host in December 2019. Mr. Rogers himself found the Mister Robinson's Neighborhood parody amusing and affectionate, even visiting Murphy in his SNL dressing room to tell him so. Cabbage Patch Dolls were the hottest toy of 1984, causing shopping riots during the Christmas season.
