Are We the Baddies?

youtube.com

Two Nazi SS officers in World War II have a dawning realization that they might be the "baddies" when one of them notices their caps have skulls on them. The sketch takes place in a trench during the war, where Hans and his comrade are awaiting an Allied barrage. The second Nazi begins questioning their moral position after noticing the skull emblems on their uniforms. As they discuss their symbols versus the Allies' (stars, stripes, lions, and sickles), Hans tries to rationalize the skulls, first suggesting they're enemy skulls, and pointing out that "at least it's not a rat's anus." The sketch culminates as they notice skulls everywhere in their base - on ashtrays, mugs, and even being knitted into a scarf - leading to their horrified realization that they are indeed "the baddies." The sketch became a popular internet meme in the early 2020s.

Have you noticed that our caps have actually got little pictures of skulls on them?
Hans... are we the baddies?
I mean, what do skulls make you think of? Death... cannibals... beheading... pirates...
Pirates are fun!
I didn't say we weren't fun, but fun or not pirates are still the baddies.
Their symbols are all quite nice! Stars, stripes, lions, sickles...
What's so good about a sickle?
Well, nothing, and if there's one thing we've learn in the last thousand miles of retreat it's that Russian agriculture is in dire need of mechanisation.
But, you gotta say, it's better than a skull. I mean, I really can't think of anything worse, as a symbol, than a skull!
What about a... rat's anus.
