Behind the show.
Alas Smith and Jones is a British sketch comedy series starring Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones, broadcast on BBC2 from 1984 and on BBC1 until 1998, with the title shortened to Smith and Jones from 1989. Its ten six-episode series mixed filmed and studio sketches with the pair's trademark head-to-head conversations, in which Smith played the confident know-all and Jones the credulous listener. The show was made by TalkBack, the production company Smith and Jones co-founded.
