The person behind the punchline
A little backstory.
The Beastie Boys were an American hip-hop group whose television performances included Saturday Night Live. In the archive the group has a musician credit on Rookie Cop, a 1994 sketch. Their music and stage appearances drew on a playful mix of rap, rock and irreverent humour.
Formed in New York in 1981, the group became known for the trio of Mike D, MCA and Ad-Rock: Michael Diamond, Adam Yauch and Adam Horovitz. Their albums include Licensed to Ill, Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication. The Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
