American character actor born in New York City, whose career ran from 1940s films such as A Walk in the Sun and Hollow Triumph to late-career roles in Scrooged and two episodes of The Ben Stiller Show. In 1938 he was a member of the satirical troupe The Revuers alongside Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Judy Holliday.
